Do you remember what it was like being a kid in the summertime, long before deadlines and never-ending work weeks, when life’s biggest question was “one scoop or two?” Those days when extra sprinkles solved every problem, and nothing else in the world mattered except a waffle cone and a leaning tower of mint chocolate chip?
I sure do.
Growing up, some of my most favorite memories included ice cream in some form or another. Whether it was the way my heart would jump when I heard the distant melody of an ice cream truck, or the excitement of standing in line at the local custard spot for the first time of the season, nothing compared to the sheer joy of that first bite on a hot summer day.
Twenty some years later, I still get that same feeling when I eat ice cream. That pure and simple bliss, the feeling that all is right with the world and reality is far, far away. Ice cream makes everything better. Whether it’s a broken heart or simply a bad day, there’s not much that a scoop of rocky road and a drizzle (or two) of hot fudge can’t fix.
Ice cream is my happy place, my infinite childhood. I’d like for this blog to feel that way, too. So, go ahead. Get that extra scoop. Eat it. Love it. Take a bath in it. Be a kid again. Just don’t skimp; because if the spoon fits, there’s not enough ice cream in your bowl!
Happy scooping!
